Behind every great photo is a story — here’s mine.

Hey there! I’m Katie - sports photographer, former multi-sport kid turned lifelong athlete, and mom to one very busy baller. I’m based in Plainfield, IL, but you’ll usually find me on the sidelines, camera in hand and probably yelling “Nice hustle!”

Proof That Yelling “Let’s Go!” Can Be a Career Path

Motherhood, Movement & Big Life Pivots

I’ve got one incredible, sports-obsessed kid named Will, and a very supportive husband named Brian who’s gotten used to spending his weekends surrounded by whistles, cleats, and whatever uniform piece we can’t find five minutes before we’re supposed to leave. We live in Plainfield, IL, where our family calendar is basically just a color-coded game schedule with no blank spaces.

I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago playing anything that involved a scoreboard, from volleyball, to basketball, cheerleading to track and field. That love of movement eventually led me to become a physical therapist. For over a decade, I worked with athletes and active folks, helping them heal, train, and get back to doing what they love. It was rewarding, challenging, and totally aligned with how I’ve always moved through the world (pun intended).

But while I was building a career in PT, there was another passion quietly tagging along: photography. I’ve had a camera in my hand since the days of film and flip phones. At first, it was a hobby, but it slowly turned into something more. With lots of encouragement (and a little convincing) from my husband Brian, I finally took the plunge and left my physical therapy career behind to focus on photography full-time. It was a big leap, but honestly, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

That’s when KTK Sports Photography was born, and my camera followed me from dance studios to sports fields.

MY APPROACH TO SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY

Sports have always been a big part of my life, not just as an athlete, but as someone who knows what it feels like to be in the middle of the action. That’s exactly what I want to capture with my camera. At KTK Sports Photography, I focus on snapping real, powerful moments.

Because I’ve been an athlete and a lifelong Chicago sports fan, I have a strong sense of where the action is headed which helps me anticipate key plays and capture those split-second moments that make all the difference. Whether it’s a dive to make a play, the roar after a big win, or a quiet second before the game starts, I’m there to capture it all.

My goal is to show athletes as they really are- focused, driven, and full of heart. These aren’t stiff, posed shots...they’re full of energy, personality, and genuine emotion.

With my background as both an athlete and a doctor of physical therapy, I pay close attention to movement, form, and timing. That’s what helps me capture clean, sharp action shots that truly tell the story of the game.

But I’m also a mom to an athlete, so I understand the photos parents treasure most aren’t always the big, dramatic plays. Sometimes it’s the close-up of those baby faces in oversized helmets, the name on the back of the jersey as they walk onto the field..you know, the future lock-screen moments. ;-)  And of course, the little things they do that “only a mother could love.”

Don’t worry… I get all of that too!!
